Chinuch With Heart

Rabbi Yaakov Bender is a "gadol b'chinuch,"”a nationally acclaimed Rosh Yeshiva who built Yeshiva Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway into one of the premier chinuch institutions in the United States. He is a wise and empathetic educator, who understands well the thoughts and feelings of his students - and their parents. His voice and opinions are sought on almost every important issue of Torah education today. In Chinuch with Heart, second in his popular series on education, Rabbi Bender answers real questions, deals with real issues, and offers real - practical and doable - ideas for parents struggling with the challenges of raising children today. How do I soothe my child's fears, when he hears about violent attacks in schools? I send my daughter great snacks, but she never gets to eat them; instead, she shares them with friends. Is this okay? My son is a good boy, a fine yeshivah bachur- and I just found out that he started smoking. How do I deal with that? And so many, many more. Yeshiva boys who walk around with shirttails out: how serious is that? Appropriate reading for youngsters - how can a parent choose? A six-year-old who doesn't like to wear a yarmulke - a big problem, or something he will outgrow? From games at recess to off-the-derech kids, here are the day to day issues and challenges that parents and educators face. And here is a master educator to share his experience and wisdom - and, yes, his heart -- in dealing with the complex and challenging world of chinuch today.
