From Ruins to Redemption

The period of the Three Weeks is both challenging and somewhat mystifying. We are all occupied trying to live good Jewish lives, and suddenly, in the middle of the summer, we’re called upon to enter a state of mourning over the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash and the exile of the Jewish People. Where is this sense of mourning and loss meant to come from? If we do not naturally experience such feelings of loss on an ongoing basis, how are we meant to somehow summon them during this time? Drawing upon a broad range of classical sources from across the generations, enlisting and combining scholarship and empathy, Rabbi Immanuel Bernstein helps chart the journey through the Three Weeks, showing the reader how to connect meaningfully with this period, engage directly with its themes, and ultimately play a role in transforming it into the foundation of the future redemption.
